information will help you in selecting the program version that will best
suit your needs.
InvisiTasking™
Available in all
products
Diskeeper can be
set to automatic. It will then defrag your computer on a real time basis.
A great method for keeping your computer defragged. InvisiTasking makes
this possible.
Diskeeper’s
revolutionary new InvisiTasking technology guarantees that Diskeeper will
use only system resources that would otherwise be wasted (idle time).
This technology allows Diskeeper’s real-time defragmentation to
continually keep your disk volumes in top shape, and ensures your
computer's performance is never slowed down by the defragmentation process
itself.
What
it Means
Rather
than having to stop what you are doing and manually perform a defrag,
Diskeeper will run whenever your computer is not using all it's power.
This relieves you of the burden of manually defragging, plus keeps your disks
defragged on a regular
basis. It is the basis of "Set and Forget". A real plus for
those that want to spend time computing and not maintaining the
computer.
I-FAAST™ 2.0
Available in Pro
Premier version
Intelligent File
Access Acceleration Sequencing Technology [I-FAAST] 2.0 improves file
access and creation on NTFS volumes by up to 80% above and beyond the
improvement provided by defragmentation alone.
When I-FAAST is enabled on a volume, Diskeeper runs specially-engineered
benchmarks on the selected NTFS volumes to learn their individual
performance characteristics. (Not all disks have the same
characteristics.)
Diskeeper transparently monitors these volumes for file access
frequency on an ongoing basis to determine which files are requested
most often.
What
it Means
The
program will figure out which files are used the most and improves their
performance. You may not see an 80% improvement but you should see an
improvement.
Frag Shield™
Available in
Professional, Pro Premier and Home Server Version
Frag shield reduces fragmentation of critical system files,
this helps to maintain
system stability and reliability.
Frag Shield performs two vital tasks: It
helps prevent fragmentation of the MTF (Master File Tables - the place
where information about every file and directory on an NTFS hard drive is
stored).
It also assists you in setting up your paging files (a hidden file on your
computer's hard disk that Windows XP & Vista uses as if it were RAM)
such that fragmentation will be very unlikely to occur in the future. Frag
Shield helps you configure your paging files as recommended in published
Microsoft guidelines.
The MFT fragmentation prevention technology in Frag Shield is fully
automatic and it operates invisibly using InvisiTasking technology.
What
it Means
Fragmentation
of the MTF and Paging Files can have a greater influence on computer
performance than other files. If these files become fragmented it can make
a notable difference to boot time and general computer performance. Once
fragmented it is difficult to defragment these files. Frag Shield is the
only technology available to prevent system file defragmentation.
Intelligent

logic controller, detects various volume and system conditions then chooses the most effective

What
it Means
Diskeeper
will perform a defragmentation in less time. Often in minutes instead of
hours. Not a generic, one size fits all defrag, Intelligent Defragmentatio plans its work based upon your system.
Power Management
for Laptops
Available in
all versions
When this option
is enabled and the computer is running on battery power, any ongoing
Manual Defragmentation jobs are cancelled.
What
it Means
On
a laptop computer, setting the Power Management option, ensures that
you can benefit from InvisiTasking when your laptop is plugged in, but the
background defragging will be stopped when running on battery. This
prevents Diskeeper from reducing available battery time.
Volume Shadow
Copy Service (VSS) Compatible Mode
Available in
all versions
Diskeeper 2008
eliminates the need to choose between the benefits of VSS and
defragmentation. The new VSS-compatible mode in Diskeeper 2008 affords you
the ability to leverage the data protection of VSS and the performance and
reliability of Diskeeper defragmentation.
When the VSS defragmentation option is enabled, Diskeeper uses proprietary
defragmentation engines to help reduce the chance of the defragmentation
operation causing new VSS snapshots from being created, thus potentially
preventing older snapshots from being purged.
What
it means
A
full discussion of VSS is beyond the scope of this article. For home and
home offices users VSS is mainly concerned with Windows Vista operating
systems. A VSS snapshot helps Vista to recover your system in case of a
systems disaster. Diskeeper's VSS-compatible mode helps VSS and
Defragmentation operations to better work together.
Real-Time
complete defragmentation

Real-time
defragmentation automatically handles fragmentation as it occurs,
providing maximum system performance at all times!
What
it means
Set
it and forget it. Your drive is being defragged when it needs, as it needs
it. You don't have to remember or take the time to perform a defrag. It
pretty much fixes the problem before it is a problem.
Boot-Time
Defragmentation of Critical Systems Files
Available in

Safely performs
Microsoft®-recommended defragmentation of critical system files to
improve performance and reliability.
What
it means
Using
Diskeeper can prevent your systems files from being fragmented, but what
about the systems files that were fragmented before you started using
Diskeeper?
Boot-Time Defrag can defrag these files. If you own Diskeeper
read the program's Help Files for tips on the best and safest procedure for
performing a Boot-Time Defragmentation.
Automatic
Directory Consolidation
Available in
all versions
Automatically
performs the additional processing necessary to move all the directories
on each volume into a single location on the volume. This setting affects
both Automatic and Manual Defragmentation operations.
What
it means
Improves
antivirus scan times and makes back-ups faster. With today's large hard anything that
reduces virus scan or backup times is a good thing.
Defragment all
volumes simultaneously
Available in
all versions
Diskeeper can analyse
and defragment more than one disk volume (hard drive partitions)
at a time. This includes a backup hard drive attached to the computer, but
does not include network attached storage devices or other computers on
the network.
What
it means
It
does not mean much if you only have one volume. Could be a timesaver to
those with more than one volume.
(
Although not 100% accurate you can
think of a volume as a hard drive).
Historical
Reporting
Available in
all versions
Diskeeper can
provide useful information about file performance loss on your volumes,
and also historical data about the fragmentation levels on your volumes.
Diskeeper collect the data and presents in a logical fashion.
What
it means
For
those that like to get into the nuts & bolts of things this is a nice
feature. It is also an, easy to use, tool for the dedicated. It shows what Diskeeper
has done to keep your system running smoothly.
Intuitive Control
Panel
Available in

The Dashboard
Control Panel displays real-time details about automatic defragmentation,
the health of your volumes, the idle resources that Diskeeper uses to
accelerate volume performance, and other useful information.
What
it means
A
look at the control panel will give you a wealth of info. Nice for
power-users. Those of us that are going to "set and
forget" will rarely see the control panel.

with 64-bit operating systems. *All but the Home Version
What
it means
Diskeeper
2008 will work with 64-bit operating systems, but you will have to use a
version other than the Home Version. Important if you have a Windows Vista
Business or Windows Vista Enterprise.

If
